PAOLO SUPENA

Senior Web Operations Engineer | WordPress & WooCommerce Platform Specialist | AI Integration

Web Operations · Kitchener–Waterloo, Ontario

I keep revenue-generating websites fast, secure, and online.

Websites don't earn when they're slow, hacked, or down. For the past 8 years I've been the engineer accountable for making sure that doesn't happen. Owning live WordPress, WooCommerce and other framework sites end-to-end, from the checkout logic down to the server config underneath it.

If your website takes orders, brings in leads, or represents your business, I make sure it keeps doing that: updates handled, backups verified, problems caught early, and a real person answering when something breaks.

No pitch, no obligation — I review your site before we talk and come to the call with specifics.

About

Operations first, development second

Plenty of developers can build a WordPress site. Far fewer will own it in production — be the one accountable when the checkout stops taking orders at 9 p.m., read the server logs to find out why, and fix both the symptom and the cause. That's the job I've done for 8 years at a web agency in Kitchener–Waterloo, across marketing sites, multilingual builds, membership and events platforms, and WooCommerce stores.

What makes that work is owning both halves of the stack: the application layer (checkout, pricing and cart logic, ACF/Gutenberg content systems, WPML multilingual) and the infrastructure underneath it (Linux, Apache, Nginx, Plesk, Cloudflare, DNS, SSL, caching, deployments). When something breaks, I don't hand it off between a "developer" and a "server person" — I'm both.

Operations & Infrastructure

  • Linux, SSH, Apache, Nginx
  • Plesk, cPanel/WHM hosting
  • Cloudflare, DNS, SSL/TLS
  • Caching (page, object, CDN, server)
  • Backups, migrations, redirects
  • Log-based root-cause debugging
  • Uptime & incident response

Senior Web Developer / Web Operations Engineer — 2018 to present

Digital Chaos Inc. (web agency) — Kitchener, Ontario & remote

  • Sole engineer accountable for development, maintenance, incident response, and hosting operations across a portfolio of production WordPress and WooCommerce sites — spanning marketing, content, multilingual, membership, events, and e-commerce use cases.
  • Built and maintained WooCommerce customizations: checkout fields, pricing logic, cart behavior, product display, and order workflows for business-specific purchasing requirements.
  • Designed editor-friendly content systems with ACF Pro, custom Gutenberg blocks, and reusable patterns; supported multilingual publishing with WPML.
  • Supported marketing and CRM integrations, including HubSpot form embeds, Salesforce lead-capture handoffs, form field mapping, notification workflows, and troubleshooting of web-to-CRM submission issues.
  • Implemented and maintained analytics/tracking setups using Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, including tracking scripts, conversion/event tracking support, campaign attribution, and validation of tag behavior across production pages.
  • Ran web operations on Linux hosting stacks: Apache, Nginx, Plesk, Cloudflare, DNS, SSL/TLS, security headers, redirects, and Git-based deployments.
  • Resolved production incidents — plugin conflicts, PHP errors, caching issues, DNS/SSL failures, broken checkouts, form submission issues, tracking-script problems, and CRM handoff errors — via server logs, WordPress debug logs, browser developer tools, Query Monitor, and structured testing.
  • Drove performance work from Google PageSpeed Insights findings into caching strategy, asset optimization, third-party script review, custom plugins, and server configuration.
  • Planned and executed migrations, redirect maps, data-structure changes, and integration updates with minimal downtime; provided client-facing technical support and documentation for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Integrated AI-assisted workflows (Claude, OpenAI) into planning, debugging, code review, QA, and documentation — with human review on all production decisions.

Additional development experience

  • Laravel (team application): collaborated with a development team on a Laravel-based PHP MVC application, working within established framework conventions, a shared codebase, and a team delivery workflow.
  • React.js, Vite & TypeScript: completed recent hands-on training in component-based UI development, TypeScript fundamentals, and Vite build workflows, extending earlier React/MERN coursework.
